Scheda sentiero
A long and demanding stage of the Via della Costa between Sestri Levante and Levanto, with continuous panoramic ascents and descents along the eastern Ligurian Riviera.
The Via della Costa is a Ligurian walking route ideally connecting Santiago de Compostela and Rome through the regional coastline. The official project presents an approximately 348 km route divided into 12 stages, recovering, where possible, historic communication routes, Roman-road sections, mule tracks and alternatives to the Via Aurelia.
Stage 10 starts in Sestri Levante and initially follows Via Antica Romana Occidentale, crosses Piazza Ponte Santo Stefano and the medieval bridge, then joins Via Antica Romana Orientale and continues towards Trigoso. From here it climbs towards Villa Valle Lago and Villa della Manierta, leaves the asphalt and reaches the Punta Baffe picnic area along panoramic paths immersed in vegetation.
From Punta Baffe the route continues towards Moneglia with ups and downs, more demanding sections and a steep final descent. In Moneglia it crosses the centre, reaches the Church of San Giorgio and continues towards the Parish Church of Santa Croce, where the official page reports a fountain. The guide recommends carrying sufficient water for the Sestri Levante - Moneglia section.
From Moneglia the route takes the stepped path towards Lemeglio, climbs through the village and continues beyond the church. The itinerary alternates unpaved paths and descents to Deiva Marina, where it enters the town and crosses the sector of the Parish Church of Santa Croce before continuing towards Fornaci.
From Fornaci the route climbs through woodland along steps carved into the rock and reaches Serro. It then follows dirt roads and paths towards Framura, crossing Setta, Ravecca, Anzo and Ciamia with its characteristic small harbour. The official page also describes a variant from Spiaggetta, which requires care because of exposure.
From Framura the route continues towards Vandarecca and Case Rosse, then reaches Bonassola. After crossing the village, it follows the Blue-Green Trail towards Levanto, passes the Via Scernio sector and finally descends to the sea and the Levanto promenade.
Stage 10 is a long and complex walking day. Trail markers, path accessibility, fallen trees and variant conditions may change over time. Before departure, check the updated status, consult the official track and plan water, timing and support points carefully.
Demanding stage: the official source indicates high difficulty, 29.900 km and an indicative walking time of about 7 hours 30 minutes. Use hiking footwear with good grip, start only in favourable weather and carry an adequate water supply. The official guide specifically recommends carrying water for the Sestri Levante - Moneglia section. Take care on ascents and descents, steep slopes, unpaved surfaces, local trail markers and any exposed variants. Always check current accessibility before departure.
