Scheda sentiero
The hike starts from the seafront promenade of Fegina, the modern part of Monterosso. Leaving the beach behind and passing the famous Gigante statue, the trail immediately begins a decisive climb. A long and steep stone stairway winds among maritime pines and dry-stone walls, offering increasingly broad views over Monterosso Bay as elevation is gained.
Beyond the most demanding initial section, the gradient becomes gentler and the trail stabilises at altitude. The route reaches the saddle of the promontory near Colle di Sant'Antonio, at approximately 310 metres above sea level. From here, a very short detour of about ten minutes towards the rocky spur of Punta Mesco is highly recommended. The evocative ruins of the ancient Eremo di Sant'Antonio del Mesco, dating from the fourteenth century, and an old military semaphore station stand here. This is the most iconic panoramic viewpoint on the entire route.
Leaving Mesco behind, the itinerary continues past the junction with trail 591 and begins its gradual descent towards Levanto. The surface becomes a pleasant panoramic mule track overlooking the western coastline. The trail crosses shaded woodland before descending definitively to sea level and ending on Levanto’s seafront promenade in the Vallesanta area.
