Reggimonti - Monte Gaggi - SP 64 - Monte Grumo (REL trail marker / Bracco Ridge)

Descrizione

The itinerary starts from Reggimonti, an old and characteristic hillside village in the municipality of Framura. The first section climbs the slope behind the houses and enters dense, shaded woodland of chestnut trees, holm oaks and maritime pines. With a steady gradient, the route gains the main ridge and reaches the slopes and summit of Monte Gaggi, at approximately 490 metres above sea level, a predominantly wooded relief offering cool shade and shelter.

From Monte Gaggi, the trail continues westwards along the ridge, crossing the mountain grasslands of Pian Pontasco and gently descending until it meets provincial road SP 64. This point is an important logistical junction and rest stop for hikers in the area. After crossing the asphalt road, the trail returns to the ridge line and the surrounding landscape changes radically, taking on the stark and rugged character typical of the Passo del Bracco area.

Vegetation becomes sparse, giving way to mountain heathland and spectacular outcrops of serpentinite and red jasper. The final uphill section reaches the summit of Monte Grumo at 651 metres above sea level. From this exceptional panoramic point, the view opens through 360 degrees: to the south, the Ligurian Sea reveals the entire coastline from Punta Mesco to the Portofino Promontory, while to the north the view stretches over the broad Val di Vara valley and the summits of the Ligurian Apennines.

Informazioni pratiche

Partenza Reggimonti (hillside hamlet of Framura, SP - 412 m above sea level)
Arrivo Summit of Monte Grumo (651 m above sea level)
Periodo consigliato September to June.

The route is moderately long and develops over very varied terrain: mule track and beaten earth in the first woodland section, scree and exposed rock in the second section towards Monte Grumo. There are no technical difficulties or exposed passages, but loose gravel and clay-rich rocks require a steady step to avoid slipping. As a ridge itinerary, the area is subject to strong winds and sudden banks of sea fog, known locally as "macaia", which can reduce visibility to zero in open areas. Hiking shoes with a rigid or deeply lugged sole and a good windproof jacket are recommended.
