La Villa - Rio di Casale Connection (REL trail marker)

Descrizione

The itinerary develops as a variant or connecting route within the trail network linking the small villages of the Val di Vara. It starts from the hillside locality of La Villa, a small rural settlement in a sunny position. After leaving the local road, the trail turns sharply and enters dense woodland dominated by chestnut trees, hop hornbeams and holm oaks.

The route follows an old track once used by local farmers to reach the plots on the valley floor and the water mills. The descent is steady and winds through small switchbacks that soften the slope gradient. As the route approaches the bottom of the valley, the environment becomes cooler and damper: tree cover gives way to a rich presence of ferns and riparian plants, while the sound of water announces the destination. The trail ends upon reaching the bank of the Rio di Casale. This arrival point is a strategic crossroads for hikers, who may climb towards the village of Casale or continue along the valley floor towards Pignone.

Informazioni pratiche

Partenza La Villa locality (Pignone, SP)
Arrivo Rio di Casale (valley floor, SP)
Periodo consigliato All year round

The trail is short and presents no technical difficulties or exposed passages. However, because it descends along a north-facing wooded slope, the unpaved surface tends to retain moisture for a long time. A dense layer of dry leaves and exposed roots may make the ground slippery, particularly during winter months or after recent rainfall. Hiking shoes with a good lugged sole and poles to assist the descent are recommended.
