Scheda sentiero
A wild geological and rural itinerary crossing historic stone settlements and the old red-marble quarries of the Bracco area.
The itinerary starts from Puntaschi, a ridge locality situated at an elevation of more than 500 metres, characterised by sparse heathland vegetation, mountain Mediterranean scrub and evident rocky outcrops. The first section follows an unpaved track gradually descending along the south-west-facing slope.
The trail soon reaches Case Vigo, a fascinating cluster of rustic buildings and stone farmhouses, now largely ruined and reclaimed by vegetation, bearing witness to the isolated farming and pastoral life that characterised these mountains in past centuries. Beyond the clearings of Case Vigo, the environment becomes more rugged and distinctly geological: the path crosses areas once exploited for quarrying, where jasper and serpentinite create shades ranging from deep red to dark green.
The route ends near Cava Serin, an imposing disused quarry face representing a true open-air museum of local mining history. From here, the itinerary connects with farm roads and trails descending towards the floor of the Deiva Marina valley or climbing towards the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri.
The trail crosses an area with a predominantly rocky and debris-covered surface. It presents no technical difficulties or exposed passages, but loose stones and sharp rock fragments require constant attention to avoid slipping or twisting an ankle, especially on the descent towards the quarry. Hiking boots with a rigid and reinforced sole are strongly recommended. Do not leave the marked trail near the quarry face because of the possible instability of the upper rock benches.
