Scheda sentiero
An evocative historic and naturalistic itinerary leading to an ancient stone bridge hidden in the woodland of the Levanto-Bonassola area.
The trail is short, well defined and presents no technical difficulties or exposed passages. However, the valley-floor environment and proximity to the stream make the area particularly damp and subject to moss formation on stones. The old paving near the bridge and the surrounding rocks may be extremely slippery, especially after rainy days or during winter months. Hiking shoes with a non-slip lugged sole are strongly recommended.
The itinerary starts from paths crossing the valley floor behind the coast and joins an old local road once used by farmers, merchants and muleteers. The trail quickly enters a cool and shaded environment dominated by lush riparian vegetation, including ferns, alders and centuries-old chestnut trees.
The route follows the watercourse upstream with a gentle gradient until it reaches the spectacular Ponte del Loro. Built entirely from local stone with a solid arch structure, the bridge bears witness to the importance of water management and stable pedestrian connections for the area's historic economy. It crosses the stream at a point where the river bed forms small pools and evocative water features.
Beyond the bridge, the trail climbs the opposite side of the valley again, offering the possibility of connecting with the upper variants of the local hiking network towards the hillside villages or the ridge trails overlooking the Ligurian Sea.
