Levanto - Sopramare - Monte Rossini (REL trail marker 571)

The itinerary starts in the western part of Levanto, specifically in the hillside locality of Sopramare, a green residential area overlooking the bay from above. Following the well-marked trail, the route joins the old mid-slope path that historically linked Levanto with the hillside villages of Bonassola, including Montaretto and Reggimonti.

The first section develops among dry-stone walls, small olive groves and lush Mediterranean scrub scented with myrtle, tree heath and strawberry tree. As the trail climbs and leaves the houses behind, it becomes an unpaved single track and gains the secondary ridge. The view gradually opens over the entire Bay of Levanto and, on the opposite side, reveals glimpses of the coastline towards Punta Mesco and the Cinque Terre.

The steady climb continues until it reaches the saddle and the summit area of Monte Rossini, at approximately 460 metres above sea level. The relief is covered by maritime-pine woodland, largely regenerated after the fires of past decades. From the mountain area, the view extends through 360 degrees between the open sea and the inland ridges of the Ligurian Apennines.

The trail is well marked and presents no exposed or technical passages. However, its mainly south and south-west exposure leaves the first half of the route fully sunny and without shade: carrying an adequate water supply and sun protection is essential during warmer periods. The limestone and unpaved surface may become loose in very dry conditions or slippery after rainfall. Hiking shoes with a lugged sole are recommended.
