Descrizione

This itinerary follows one of the historic vertical communication and working routes once used by shepherds and farmers in Deiva Marina. The route starts from Case Ghiara, located on the valley floor of the Rio Piazza valley, a tributary of the Castagnola stream. From here the trail climbs the hillside along a well-preserved historic mule track paved with local stone, entering a forest environment dominated by dense woodland and thermophilic cork-oak groves. The path gains elevation with increasingly gentle gradients, passing through the small rural settlement of Caraschi. The hike ends in the old and quiet hillside village of Piazza, a hamlet of Deiva Marina located at approximately 180-200 metres above sea level, offering privileged views over the surrounding nature and inland valleys.

Informazioni pratiche

Partenza Case Ghiara (Deiva Marina, SP)
Arrivo Piazza locality (hamlet of Deiva Marina, SP)
Periodo consigliato All year round
  • The mule track is made of stone: steps and historic paving may become slippery in conditions of high humidity, after recent rainfall or when damp leaves cover the surface. Shoes with a non-slip lugged sole are recommended.
  • Mapping-management notice: according to the official register, the route is classified as having no trail markers or as a secondary trail. The track is nevertheless evident because it follows the old paved route, but consulting the local OpenStreetMap map in advance is recommended.
