Carpeneggio - Scà

This route is a short but intense vertical detour from the classic mid-slope hiking axis linking Bonassola to Framura, namely the SVA or trail 661. The itinerary develops entirely within the municipality of Bonassola and starts near Sella di Carpeneggio, a high-level junction situated at approximately 130-140 metres above sea level, a short distance from the Salto della Lepre promontory. After taking the track descending towards the sea, the trail drops decisively through a rocky gully bordered by dense Mediterranean scrub and heath. The ground is characterised by spectacular outcrops of dark ophiolitic rocks, including gabbro and serpentinite. At the end of the descent, the route reaches the splendid Spiaggia di Scà, also known as Scalo di Scà: a wild and unequipped cove famous for its crystal-clear water and multicoloured pebbles enclosed by imposing cliffs.

• Wear hiking shoes with excellent grip: the steep gradient combined with loose gravel and smooth stones creates a very high slipping risk. Flip-flops and open beach shoes are not suitable.
• The return climb is short but very demanding because the elevation gain is concentrated within a few hundred metres. Assess your strength carefully.
• The beach consists of large boulders and is exposed to rough seas. Do not descend in the event of high waves or adverse weather conditions.
• There are no drinking-water sources or artificial shaded areas in the cove.
