Borghetto – Our Lady of Roverano – Monte Pastenelle – Punta Leccio

Trail 546 is a historic devotional and nature route in the La Spezia Apennines, crossing the municipalities of Borghetto di Vara and Carrodano. The route begins in the village of Borghetto di Vara on the valley floor and climbs steadily through old olive groves and wooded areas to the panoramic hill where the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Roverano stands, at an elevation of about 350 metres, in a secluded and peaceful natural setting. After leaving the Sanctuary complex, the trail continues along the watershed through dense woodland around the slopes of Monte Pastenelle. Following the panoramic ridge surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and pine woods, the route ends at Punta Leccio, an important junction connecting the coastal and inland trail networks towards Levanto.

• Structured trekking boots are essential because of the mixed hillside surface, which can be damp and covered with slippery leaves on shaded slopes.
• As the route is more than 11 km long, carry an adequate supply of water and energy snacks, as there are no drinking-water sources beyond the Sanctuary area.
• Cartographic management note: the trail is historically recorded but may include sections where local waymarking requires maintenance. An offline GPS mapping device is recommended for orientation near Monte Pastenelle.
